ALOHA OPEN
Hawaiian breezes will be blowing through the newly remodeled Winston Salem Athletic Club (formally Body Check) on June 20-22 when the Aloha Open returns for it's 7th year. This is the ultimate racquetball theme tournament with it's signature Hawaiian souvenir shirts, great hospitality all weekend, and the Aloha Open party with DJ Panama on Saturday night. This tournament attracts many of the best women Pro players in the country, and this year wil be no different. There is a 130 player limit for this event, and last year it was sold out a week in advance of the deadline, and over 30 players were turned away. We expect to sell out at least 2 weeks ahead of the deadline this year, so don't be left out of this great event. The entry form, tournament web site, and online entry are up. There will be no exceptions to the player limit, so make sure your doubles partners enter before the cutoff. ATLANTIC COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS
What a great event! The tournaments at the WAC just keep getting better with TD Charlie Hauser coming up with a new theme every time. This tournament was "Casino Weekend". The hospitality room and other areas were decorated with Casino themes, and with the Kentucky Derby running the same weekend it gave everyone a chance to get involved with some horse racing also. The race was projected up on the large wall in the lobby so everyone could cheer on their favorite horse. Then there was the Mystery Match where you chose either the Red or Blue player for your friendly wager. Every time you refereed, you received another card to try and make your best poker hand to win a prize Saturday evening. Then the main event.....Casino Royale in the gym on Saturday night. Charlie had an event group set up a casino in the gym of the club complete with blackjack, craps, and roulette. The event team's dealers kept the action going until midnight, when you traded in your chips for raffle tickets to win some great prizes. All the time, there was the main event boxing match projected on the gym wall, DeLaHoya v. Forbes. Amazing!! NC tournaments players are truly lucky to have the WAC and Charlie Hauser to put on events like this. NC OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS AND PHOTOS
The results and photos from the NC Open Championships held at the Sportscenter Triad in High Point on April 18-20 are posted. There were just 88 entries in this event, but with 4 courts it was a full weekend of racquetball. The Sportscenter is a beautiful facility for an event with all the amenities. Saturday night had the players chowing down on some good ol' NC BBQ with all the fixens supplied by Carter Brothers in High Point. Newcomer to the NCRA racquetball scene, Dennis Myers, showed that he will be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years. Winning the Elite division, and pushing eventual Open division winner and current State Champion Brian Bottomley to an 11-10 tiebreaker showed that Dennis has what it takes to make his mark in the state. Dennis is the son of NC Hall of Famer, Janet Myers, who played on the women's Pro circuit for many years. Jeff West has once again taken some great photos of the event. NC JUNIOR FINALIST IN HIGH SCHOOL NATIONALS
Ryan Ingram from Concord High School recently made the trip to the USAR High School National Racquetball Tournament held Feb. 27 - March 2 in Portland, Oregon. Ryan played in the #1 Boy's Gold division, entering the division as a #7 seed. With 47 of the best high school players around the country entered, he knew he had a tough road ahead if he was to do well in the tournament. And a tough road it was. With only two of his matches being decided in 2 games, he played a determined Trevor Snyders from Woodridge, Illinois in his semi final match. Trevor came in as the #3 seed in the division. After losing the first game 15-6, Ryan had to dig deep to win the next two games, 15-13 and 11-10. That put him in the finals against the number #1 seed, Taylor Knoth from LaSalle, Milwaukie. Taylor proved why he drew that seed by defeating Ryan in the finals. But it was a great week for Ryan bringing the Silver medal back home to NC. Congratulations from everyone for a great tournament Ryan! To see the draw from Ryan's division   read more...
2008 NCRA STATE SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS AND PHOTOS
The results and photos from the NCRA State Singles Championships are posted.  Jeff has posted a great group of photos from the event. Check out the Gallery for all the action and people at this year's event. Congratulations to all the new State Champions, and especially Brian Bottomley for winning the Men's Open division. Brian has been one of the top players in the state for awhile, but this was his first State Championship. Brian and wife Carrie have just had a new baby boy also, so this has been a good year for him. This year's tournament was one of the largest in recent history in NC with 122 players entering the event. I'm sure our central location played a big part in that, and we'd like to thank all the players that decided to play this year. Racquetball is strong in NC and we plan to keep it that way. MY SERVE

This column title has changed from notes from the prez...  to My Serve. Why? Because as of March 2 my fourth term (8 years) as President of the NCRA was up, and I decided not to seek a fifth term. I am staying on the NCRA Board and will continue as webmaster, and I will aso continue to put together the NCRA State Singles and Doubles, as well as my own events. I really want to focus on the Tour For Hope series and raising money for the FRIENDS breast cancer charity. And it just seemed like the right time to let some fresh leadership take over and take our organization to even greater heights. Our systems are in place, but we can always improve on what we have. I have really enjoyed my time as President, and working to build this organization to where it is with the help of the NCRA Board.

Our new President is Debbie Bryant. Debbie has been on the Board many more years than me and has a ton of experience in racquetball. She'll do a great job leading our state. Helping her out in the Vice President role will be Eric New. Eric will be taking a much stronger role within our state, and I know he will introduce many new initiatives. Jan Stelma has returned to the Board and will be in the role of Treasurer. Jan served as the President before me and was instrumental in bringing financial stability to our organization during her term. Another new Board member, John Childress, will assume the duties of secretary. I'm sure he'll look great in the NCRA official thong and skirt. Rounding out the Board are new members, David Stone and Ray White, and current members Pete Beckwith, Jon Tumas, Stewart Mauck, Mike "Bush Hog" Bourgeois and myself. All of our Board members have specific roles within our state. We'll be introducing the Board members more in depth each month starting in April.

I hope everyone will continue to give their support to the new leadership the same way you have supported me in the past. We have a great state in NC for racquetball, and the NCRA Board intends to do it's very best to make sure that continues.
